ABOUT CANINE WELLNESS

PETER

Peter started his journey into dog training in South Korea where he volunteered at a local dog shelter. Leash training these shelter dogs sparked an educational interest in the deeper understanding of dogs and how they operate.

Since the very first day at the shelter, Pete has been on a quest for continuing education to better help dogs become more resilient so that they can successfully transition to a life outside rescue.

Pete has worked in shelters in Canada, United States and South Korea, taking every opportunity to learn more about dog behaviours and training techniques.  He studied Canine Cognition through Arizona State University with Dr. Clive Wynne and continues learning from industry leaders such as Amiee Sadler (Dogs Playing For Life), Ivan Balabanov, Jay Jack and many others.

The training Peter does has helped thousands of dogs successfully integrate into new homes across the world, or simply become better dogs at the homes they already have.

ELEANOR

To adequately talk about the history of Canine Wellness, one must mention Eleanor.  Eleanor is Pete’s rescue dog from South Korea who shaped his love from training rescue dogs.  In Korea, Eleanor was adopted and returned multiple times for being destructive, high energy, dog aggressive and just overall a naughty dog. From the first day he saw her behind bars he loved her, and every time she returned it broke his heart to see her back at the shelter. Until one day he decided that she was coming home with him.

The shelter owners did not even take a picture when leaving because they thought she would just be returned next week like many times before. Today, Eleanor is living a fun, fulfilled life by Pete’s side in Canada. She plays a key roll in the rehab of our foster dogs, and together they compete in dog sports such as GRC and scent detection.  Together they have earned several titles and growing.

SAMANTHA

Sam is Peter’s partner in life and in dog rescue.  Samantha has always had a love of dogs.  From growing she has always had a dog in her life and now in her adulthood she would have 50, if Peter let her. When Samantha moved back from South Korea. She studied Pet Grooming and specialized in Poodles.

However, she quickly realized her specialty was actually with difficult to handle dogs. Being involved with rescue for so many years, Samantha is able to handle almost any fearful dog with patients and kindness.
